The Department of English is one of the ten departments in the Faculty of Arts of the University of Cape Coast. The Faculty was established with the University in 1962 as a Department of Arts in 1965 when it became a full faculty. The Department of English was carved out as a full department for academic studies in English Language and Literature, as well as in Linguistics and Literature in English.
The Department has, over the years, maintained this mandate and has produced many graduates who are in various sectors of the economy and in Ghana and other African countries.
Currently the Department of English is one of the strongest departments in the country, relentlessly working hard to turn out graduates
- who will be adequately prepared to face the challenges of the modern workplace;
- who will be sought after by graduate schools here and abroad; and
- who can fill positions in academic departments in universities and colleges in Ghana and elsewhere.
